Desarrollo Monarca was founded in 1970 by U.S. businessman Daniel K. Ludwig, as a landmark, the first model homes were built in Mexico City on a track of land in the distinguished Avenida Reforma # 212. In 1972 the company was selected by the INFONAVIT (Mexico's Low Income Housing Office) to build homes in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, the beginning of a long relationship providing Mexico with much needed Low Income Housing. To this end Desarrollo Monarca began in earnest with projects in: la Colonia Del Valle Distrito Federal, Ciudad Juárez Chihuahua, Fraccionamiento San Pablo in Querétaro, Orizaba in Veracruz, Coacalco and Pedregal de Atizapán in the Estado de México.
In 1974 Mr. Edward Plunkett Taylor purchased Desarrollo Monarca and Propulsa from Mr. Ludwig but in 1976 due to the change in Mexican Law regarding foreign ownership of Mexican Investments, he sold controlling interest to a group of Mexican Investors. They remained partners until 1978 when the Mexican Investors purchased the totality of the shares.
The company has actively participated in many infrastructure ventures, to name a few: Mexico City, Puebla and Colima International Airports, the expansion of the Cancun Airport, Aeromexico's training facilities and the remodeling of building B of SCT National Center.
Desarrollo Monarca built the General Hospital in Puebla, the surgery building for the Villahermosa Regional Hospital, the General Hospital for Huatulco in Oaxaca, the specialties Hospital in Leon, Guanajuato, the Children's Hospital "Federico Gómez" in Mexico City, the Family Clinics in Chalco and the Parking building for the Juarez Hospital in Mexico City.
En la División Minera se extrajeron y beneficiaron las unidades mineras de El Bote, San José, San Alvar, Plateros, Alianza, Casualidad, Dios nos guie, Guanajuatillo, Reforma, Bernardina, Esperanza, Purísima, Refugio del oro, Valenciana, Santa Ana y San Bartolo de 1994 al 2000.
The company has completed a number of important complexes, Plaza Inn Mall and Financial Center and the operations center for Multibanco Mercantil in San Ángel, Mexico City, Plaza Centro (Large Department Store) in downtown Mexico, Palacio de Hierro Santa Fe, French Embassy in México, Ciudad Argentum (Planned City) in Zacatecas, the Marriot Casa Magna, Ritz Carlton in Cancún and Monarca Ixtapa condominiums in Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo.
Desarrollo Monarca has been a pioneer in single family and multi family dwellings in the construction industry, to date it has built more than 50,000 homes in Mexico and 150,000 abroad with its foreign subsidiary International Housing Limited.
